Hidden Gem Tracks

(I couldn't think of a good title. Can you tell?)

A music thread for tracks that, for one reason or another, you don't think get acknowledged enough. Maybe they're from games no one cares about, or maybe they're just buried by more popular tracks on the same OST. I had a thread like this a few years ago, but we've all probably found more since then and I'm not limiting it to obscure scores this time.

I'll open with "Dragon of the Diamond Cave" from Giga Wrecker. It's from a mediocre game and mediocre OST that have both been pretty much forgotten, and it even hides behind an unremarkable opening 20 seconds to blend in. But it secretly deserves to be a final boss theme from a far better game:

Here's a song mostly relegated to SMW ROM hacks.

Still a good song though. It's from an old multiplayer cannon game from Korea. It's perfect for taking turns trying to blow each other up.

^Good pick.

Super Monkey Ball 2 and the original are weird games with weird OSTs. The tracks are all either really good or really boring. "Monkey Dogfight" was my favorite mode and it's also the best track:

It's not very "hidden" considering it's the title theme, but despite virtually everything else about this game being dog crap, I really like this track. It's eerie and ominous, and deserves a better game than the one it was in.

Another one I've mentioned several times before: Final Fantasy VI has so many fantastic songs that you'd be forgiven for overlooking a few gems, but it's still a shame that Gau's theme gets so little recognition.

Hidden Gem Tracks
"Dragon of the Diamond Cave"
What you did there. I see it.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Pour one out for everyone's favorite wild child. ;A;

Sheesh, normally I'm really good at thinking about stuff like this but I'm drawing blanks today. Will definitely be revisiting this topic in the near future.

^The other minigame tracks are mostly in a similar vein, so you'd probably like those as well.

Summon Night Swordcraft Story is an awesome crafting action RPG that no one (including me for 10 years) played because it came out on the GBA in 2006. The OST is actually mostly boring, but it has a couple tracks worth listening to:

If Tetris 99 used this as its background music, I'd put a whole lot more effort into getting good.

as a side note pretty much any music from Learning Company makes me want to play all the things from my childhood, but alas there are only like, three games I can really get working.

I’ve shared this here before but I still think it counts as a hidden gem, much like Mole Mania itself

has a long-ass ambient intro, skip to about 0:35 to get into the good stuff

AT3 is a terrible game that for some reason has an amazing, if brief, soundtrack.

Reminder that the F-Zero GX soundtrack has an individual theme composed for every single character, and you only really hear them in the game’s racer gallery

I played Pokemon Rumble World long enough to decide that the grind I was putting up with was not worth my time.

It's kind of a shame it's one of the less good free to play Nintendo games, because there's two parts I really love about it: The scene where one of the villains tries to make you eat pancakes and this song.

It's short, but it also only played in ten second bursts in game and only on one stage if I remember right. :sigh:

This piece is probably not anything special in the overall realm of things but it's always been one of my favorites. I just love it atmospherically. In an OST with a **** ton of absolute banger battle BGMs, this one pretty much never gets mentioned, but I've always really loved it. Its vibe makes me want to go on a nature walk with a cool breeze blowing on a magical JRPG mountain.

Double Dragon is definitely underappreciated these days, especially when it has such bangin songs. They all had their own feeling apart from everything else on the NES, too.

I muttered 'light as a board, stiff as a feather' for 2 days straight and now I've ascended, ;aughing at olympus and zeus is crying
