your fave "classical" music pieces

classical is in quotations because the classical era is in fact very limited and most of what we think of when we say classical music includes romantic and baroque but i think y'all know what i mean

anyway, Dvořák was a badass and the new world symphony is **** great if you want some good **** on in the background for the next 43 minutes:

discovered this wonderful piece thru Civ 4's soundtrack:

beyond that I really like Schubert's symphonies, his third in particular is great.

Ode to Joy.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Thoughts on contemporary? Because I've always been fond of this piece:

we built our house of cards
but it feels like it's still ours...

I like a lot of Georgy Sviridov's works, especially his score for The Blizzard.

There's a lot of others I like as well. Tchaikovsky and Saint-Saëns spring to mind, though they're all romantic and neoromantic rather than classical.

I've really liked a lot of Rachmaninoff music.

Ooh, I briefly forgot, I absolutely adore the version of "Ride of the Valkyries" from Rango.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
