A demo for Doom 4 (6 GB) is now available for all platforms for a limited time. From what I hear, it covers the first level.

HDOOM released a full update! All the weapons are refreshed, the bonus level is even sillier, and I read the creator talking about a full-blown Visual Novel mode. I want to see how crazy this will get.

Been playing Doom all month for the Halloween season.

Finally finished Doom II so I'm done with classic Doom and I'm moving onto Doom 3.

I already miss classic Doom.

Although if there's one criticism I have about classic Doom (it's really just superficial) is that most of the time the level names don't matter. For example, in the first Doom one level is called the nuclear plant or whatever. But it never feels like you're in a nuclear plant. It's just another maze-like level. Granted, at the time there were probably just limitations on how much they could work on for decoration and focused only on level design. I noticed right away that in Doom II they did away with the world map between levels and it was just straight up moving on from one level to the next. But I did miss that sense of a world map progression.

I plan on writing a blog post about it here, all for keeping up the Halloween theme.

bump

Played a bit of Sigil today (John Romero's new WAD), which is now out for free. It's a decent meat and potatoes WAD. Obviously Doom levelmaking has evolved a lot in the last quarter century, but if you're in the mood for a nice, classic experience, you might enjoy this one.

Just tried out the first stage, it was pretty rad, made me think a little bit. Definitely got me pumped for more.
