Pokemon Queen gives off this Cardi B vibe that I just can't seem to shake.

Fresh water, Lemonade, and Soda Pop to be replaced with Tea, Cider, and Gin in all vending machines confirmed. Wow, things might get out of hand.

Stones replaced with Scones.

And remember, "I'm-a Charizard, number, well, six."

It'd certainly fit the precedent of Pokemon villains promising utopia and setting off world-altering processes without any kind of implementation plan, but let's not be too unfair to these guys. Even Team Plasma at least made sure there were some nearby elementary schoolers who could take over if things got out of hand.

DIRECT TIME

Today I'll be playing the role of VGA

-The world looks so good
-Three early route pokemon revealed right off the bat. Bird, sheep, lizard thing
-Trainer ncounter system looks like Sun/Moon
-New bird revealed as well
-Old Pokemon are catchable--seeing Sawk, Golurk, Gyarados, Butterfree, Mudsdale, T-tar, etc.
-Lookslike Pokemon are wandering in the wild? But there are also Tall Grass encounters, too. Mixture of LEt's Go/Traditional wild pokemon?
-Looks like there's a type of mega evolution mechanic that's just like "pokemon but lorge". Reminds me of like Planeswalkers from MtG, heh

all right, actual details starting now

-The story is...Pokemon
-The gyms are staged like UK Soccer matches

-New Pokemon revealed by James Turner...
-Wooloo, the Sheep Pokemon; very cute
-Gossifleur, the flowering pokemon; super cute flower guy
-Drednaw, the Bite Pokemon; blue and yellow turtle boi
-Corviknight, missed what it's called; looks like steel/flying imo. This is the Ride Pokemon that acts like Fly
-Gossifleur evolves into Eldegoss, the Cotton Bloom Pokemon; looks angrier because that's what happens

-The "Wild Area" - the overworld in this game is basically Open World, with full camera control

-New battle mechanic: DYNAMAX - Pokemon become large and get power boosts.
-Powers each individual move
-Pokemon reverts to normal after 3 turns

-You can connect to other players in the Wild Area
-Max Raid Battle--four trainers join up to fight dynamax pokemon (raid bosses)
-Only one human player can dynamax their pokemon in the battle
-Weather and location affect what Pokemon you'll find in the Wild Area
-Some pokemon will only be able to be found in Max Raid Battles, so cooperation will be necessary to catch 'em all

Some human characters...
-The champion, Leon. Got a big cape and a fancy beard
-Your rival is Leon's little brother, Hop.
-The Professor, Magnolia - an elderly woman researching Dynamax
-Sonia, the Prof's assistant and granddaughter who's extremely cute

Gyms
-Like I said, constructed and staged like soccer matches
-Gym leaders will Dynamax, obv
-Grass-type gym leader: Milo, buff happy man

ONE MORE THING:
-LEGENDARIES
Sword Dog and Shield Dog, basically
Zacian - the Sword boi
Zamazenta - The Shield boi

Pokemon: Out of Ideas Version
I mean, let's not forget that "wow pokemon is out of ideas" has been the response to almost every single new installment since the mid 2000's pre-release except, like, XY (which had a great initial reception but immediately turned lukewarm retrospectively and now everyone hates it).

They've always been relatively safe with their formula. The game looks fun, I probably won't get it because I'm rediscovering my love of gens 3-5 and have a backlog to get to first. I don't think this game is any more ""out of ideas"" than any previous installment. I kinda think we just all have a threshold for when we stop being excited about new pokemon, whether it's for a while or permanently.

I do think you have a point though in that I think their priority is less being innovative enough that long-term hashtag real gamer fans feel compelled to buy each new installment, and more putting out new pokemon games that are polished to continue successfully selling to kids/people who like playing games with new cute and cool pokemon and added features. I don't think it looks bad or lackluster, but I definitely don't disagree that it looks like less of an impressive upgrade than, say, Kanto to Johto or Johto to Hoenn.

Not to mention that just if it doesn't click with you that's chill. It didn't click with me either, but I think that's because I'm heavily nostalgia-and-hipster-cred biased toward older installments. I'll be excited about this game in about 10 years. ;)

shout out to dog with sword
