Let the "Bowser is taking over Nintendo" jokes begin.

First Iwata, then Reggie steps down. End of an era at Nintendo.

My body is not ready.

And remember, "I'm-a Reggie, number one!"

He will certainly be missed. I wish him the best.

It'll be weird to not see or hear about Reggie after like 15 years, but I hope he enjoys his retirement.

Maybe he can leak the truth about the status of Mother 3 or hint to it at least.

Directs are going to feel a bit emptier without him, but I'm happy he can spend more time with his family now.

Shoutout to a real one. He's always been such a welcome presence in everything he's done. Gonna miss seeing him in Nintendo presentations/videos. He's always seemed like a super nice/funny guy.

Sad day. I'm not a very sentimental person though so I'm eager to see the paths Nintendo will walk without him.

Isn't he the president of Nintendo of America? Wouldn't that involve him to some degree?

^Nintendo has over a dozen game development teams, but almost all of them are in Japan, with only NST & Retro located in America (& Retro, at least, reports directly to NoJ rather than to NoA). NoA's primary functions are localization, marketing, distribution, & operating the Nintendo New York store.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^ I just remember that NoA deemed SMB2 too hard and that's why we got Doki Doki Panic instead. Maybe it was a one time thing, but if they make significant decisions like that at least occasionally then I'd consider that having something to do with development.

If I recall correctly, that was still NoJ’s decision. But I’d have to double check.

Wikipedia says it was a NoA decision. That was a unique circumstance though compared to the usual "we're not bringing this game over" or "we're altering this scene" stuff.

Yeah, I figured such a thing wasn't common. However, Nintendo's Wikipedia page also states that Nintendo of America "ensures that Nintendo's games release in a polished state." Not sure to what extent they typically do this nor what exactly constitutes "polishing" (I assume fixing glitches, correcting dialogue errors, etc) but it does seem that they have some hand in development, albeit minimally.

Exactly. It's like going into a store and thinking the president of the company is the one stocking the shelves. He was probably involved in some major decisions every now and then, but most of the "polishing" NoA did was just little things that Reggie probably never even heard about the details of

So does this mean that every new direct that doesn’t announce Mother 3 we’ll get fanart of Bowser holding Lucas hostage? Because this is now my expectation and I’ll be disappointed if it doesn’t pan out.

(Honestly I don’t actually care about an official version that much but it’s too much of a meme to let go of at this point)
